Photoshop User TV...Again!

For those of you who may be linking here via Photoshop User TV and have never been here before, in addition to my normal weekday posts, every Monday I write a roundup of what members of my Photoshop & Photography Blogroll are posting (view the list on the right). Hardware Difficulties

Sorry everyone. The laptop I use at home decided to start the decline towards death last night right when I was going to start preparing a post for today. So I was a little preoccupied trying to figure things out - we're actually going to end up getting a new one - and didn't have time to come up with anything interesting for today.

However, be that as it may, tomorrow is the premier post of a new weekly photo project! So please come back tomorrow to see what my partners and I have come up with!

Look Mom, I'm On NAPP TV!

I was at a meeting out of the office for most of the afternoon and missed the posting of the latest episode of NAPP TV by a little while. So, when I returned I saw that iTunes had updated my podcast list with this week's show and low and behold there's Dave Cross - friend of the blog - giving me a mention! Thanks guys for helping spread the word and for being such great supporters of Soup Questions!

Lightroom 1.1

As you may have read already, Adobe has just released the update to Lightroom v.1.1 (You can download it here: Win, Mac). There are a number of discussions posted out there about what the new features are:

And Scott Kelby has some news over on his blog about the new release as well as a free version 1.1 PDF update to his Lightroom Book called "My Lightroom 1.1 Update Kit" that should be uploaded tomorrow.

I downloaded the update last night before bed and then again this morning at work. I am about to finally get a chance to play with it and I'll do a P&P Workflow post about it later on today along with my first impressions of the improvements and new features.

It has just been announced that Scott Kelby, friend of the blog, was named "the top-selling computer and technology book author across all categories in the US, based on Nielsen Bookscan data for the calendar year 2006." This is the 3rd year in a row that Scott has been honored with this distinction. Bravo, my friend!

Vista Damages Nikon-Generated DNG?

According to Chris Garrett of DSLRBlog and Jason Chen of Gizmodo - reporting on an article via cnet News.com - that's what's happening. According to the article:

Microsoft has received reports of compatibility issues with Nikon NEF files after installing version 1.0 of Nikon’s RAW codec posted in January 2007. Tagging the RAW files through Windows Vista or the Microsoft Photo Info tool after the codec is installed appears to cause these files to become unreadable
in other applications, such as Adobe Photoshop. We have confirmed that these files can still be opened with Nikon Capture. [via Microsoft's Photo Info FAQ]

Admittedly, I haven't done tons of reading up on this since, even though we have it, I won't be upgrading to Vista probably until we hit a period of time when our load is a bit lighter later this spring or early summer. But this looked like something of which people should be aware. And, it looks like I'm coming to this about a month late - the articles are all dated early February.

Lightroom Reviews

Scott Kelby has just posted a list of short reviews of Lightroom (pros and cons) now that version 1.0 has been in the hands of photographers for a couple of weeks. Shortly after I posted Mike Holley's profile late last night, Scott picked it up and quoted Mike's response to the question, "What is your favorite piece of photo or computer equipment (other than your camera)?" To which he responded, "It has to be Lightroom, no question. It’s a real photographer’s tool."
